CITADEL

Citadel

A hypnotic, sublime rock piece about industrial greed and it's pollution, and the inevitable consequences of it's actions. Drums, bass, acoustic and electric guitars and keyboards open the song with the synchronized strength of large ships splitting the seas. The music is played in F minor at a moderate rock tempo. The opening verse sets the mood for the song as Aaron sings, "soft fat fingers, stretch out for more, without conscience or need." the musical theme for the verses are relaxed and steady until the chorus where the band punches things up a notch, adding a powerful touch to the words of warning, "You can't hide behind the walls of the citadel." Unavailable on the album version, this live version offers a more aggressive musical attack, a guitar lead playing a very haunting middle eastern part, and an extended psychedelic ending relaxing the listener until the music builds again and ends with a repeat of the chorus.
